How can Citizens Advice help you?
We are here to offer advice, support and guidance on a whole range of issues such as:
• Help if you are struggling to make repayments on money you owe
• Checking that you are in receipt of benefits and other monies you are entitled to
• Advice around issues you may be having with your housing
• Support with budgeting and managing your household budget
• Support if you are looking to get into work or training
In some cases we can also help with food and fuel vouchers and accessing grants for white goods and other household essentials.
How Citizens Advice helped this year?
Over the last year our adviser has supported 143 local residents with over 650 issues. The main issues we have helped with have been around benefits and debt and money. As well as helping residents access food and fuel vouchers we have also helped 35 residents to access charitable grants for white goods and household essentials totalling over £5000. A big part of our work involves checking that people are in receipt of the correct benefits in doing this we’ve helped residents access an additional £36,000. When people are in debt we are able to offer different options to help them. This could be negotiating with creditors for more affordable repayments or having debts written off through a Debt Relief Order or other insolvency option. In the last 12 months we have had over £148,000 of debt written off for local people. Our advisers have also attended the local primary school where they delivered a session on money to year 6 pupils.
