The Windmill Hill Online website is for the Windmill Hill area of Runcorn in Halton. Big Local is an exciting opportunity for residents in 150 areas around England to use at least £1m to make a massive and lasting positive difference to their communities. It’s about bringing together all the local talent, ambitions, skills and energy from individuals, groups and organisations who want to make their area an even better place to live.
Big Local is being run by Local Trust, which is working with over £200m from the Big Lottery Fund and a range of partners providing expert advice and support for residents.
There are roughly 2,400 residents on the Windmill Hill estate, approximately 1,180 of these are Male and 1,220 are Female.
Situated on the west of the estate is Pheonix Park. The Big Local, Onward (formerly the Liverpool Housing Trust) and Halton Borough Council organise a huge Party in the Park every year in which thousands of people attend, from Windmill Hill and beyond.
Windmill Hill is surrounded by a woodland area that makes up part of the Mersey Forest, it’s a natural environment and ideal terrain for residents to enjoy a stroll. Windmill Hill is also part of the 22 mile long Mersey Valley Timberland Trail.
Windmill Hill is home to two primary schools, St.Berteline’s and Windmill Hill Primary School. The latter is located in the heart of the estate and has been recognised as an ‘Outstanding School’ by Ofsted for the last two consecutive inspections.
Since August 2018 with the support of Windmill Hill Big Local, Citizens Advice have helped 210 residents on Windmill Hill with one to one support. The project has delivered an energy advice session as part of Big Energy Saving Week and has also linked with the local primary school to deliver a Money Sense session to year 6 students. During lockdown an adviser has supported a dedicated phone number for residents of Windmill Hill and has dealt with Covid-19 related queries around employment, debt and benefits. Sadly she has also dealt with some Domestic Abuse cases during the lockdown.
