Windmill Hill Events Network (WHEN) is a community group run by volunteers who live in Windmill Hill. They provide events and activities for families in Windmill Hill using funding from Windmill Hill Big Local, Halton Borough Council and Onward Homes. These volunteers work continuously organising and running the activities, as well as making connections with residents. W.H.E.N is always looking for more volunteers, whether it be with ideas, helping to setup, clear , helping on the day, anything big or small it all helps. If you would love to be involved with providing activitys/events within our community, please get in touch. Every hand helps continue allowing this group to grow and continue into the future.

This Summer we ran a trip to Llandudno. We heavily subsidised the cost of the trip and charged just £5 per person, this was a trip that some of the families in Windmill Hill would never be able to experience. Families got to travel up the Great Orme, play on the beach, check out the local gardens and even continue towards Conwy. We had the weather on our side and the whole day was very relaxed and enjoyed by all. We will be trying to do regular trips in the future, please keep an eye out in the magazine, on Facebook and also soon the notice boards at the local Coop.
We accommodated a last-minute request to try and run a craft activity for the children at St Berts. The children personalised some water bottles and pencil cases in the spirit of getting ready for Back to School. In total we had around 30 children come and created some amazing designs. Some of the parents who attended also created some fabulous cards.
Our annual outdoor cinema event, it wouldn’t be a Windmill Hill summer without this now, would it! This year we showcased Clifford the Big Red Dog on the big screen, managed by the amazing Community Objectives, who are slowly becoming well known to our community. We also hired a popcorn machine to provide free popcorn to everyone who attended. Before the movie, we shared a short Windmill Hill Big Local video to show what they do for the community.
Our annual fun day is another core aspect of the Summer programme. Every year without fail, come rain or shine, we host a Friday Fun Day. We ask many organisations, charities, local community groups and more to come along and show what they are doing as it helps the resident’s see what is available close by for their families. This year we had inflatables, a petting zoo and some multisport activities for the children to get involved with – with music and games form Ste our MC. Every year we provide this day for the residents of Windmill Hill as we love seeing everyone come together. Slowly we are getting bigger and better as more people are getting involved. All these events/activities are either provided for free or for a heavily subsidised cost by Big Local. Every event is run by volunteers, who put in time, energy and effort and without them it would not be possible. Every bit of support from the community, that want to participate in running the events helps and it hopefully allows WHEN to continue running throughout the next few years and beyond?
If you’d like to see Santa at ‘Winter Wonderland 2022’, our annual Christmas event which is taking place at St Berts on the 10th of December between 5pm-7:30pm.
